In the unique symbiosis of culture and leisure, the Benaki Museum opened a new exhibition hall in the four seasons astir palace in Athens Riviera in June 2019. This exhibition hall is one of the most famous holiday resorts in Athens.
The lighting concept of this project is to highlight the architectural features through simplicity and minimalism, and enhance the visual effect to the importance of the museum.
The first time visitors enter the exhibition hall is through the large iron gate of the hub, which is also equipped with an exhibition cabinet. Lighting these boxes is the most demanding and interesting task in the project. This door is the landmark of the project, symbolizing the alternation of day and night. The idea is to illuminate these boxes in an artistic way, which will show that lighting is part of the design, not a separate problem.
Since no known product can fix the fixture to the door without obvious cables, everything must be patented. It is a real patent to design and supply power to small spherical lighting fixtures. We engraved a 3mm circuit on each metal shell of the door, and the magnetic fastening of our customized spherical LED lamps is powered by low voltage.
In the exhibition hall, the materials selected by the architects create diversity in the region. Fiberglass and foam aluminum were used to make exhibition frames, while wood frames, mirrors and concrete completed the interior design. The basic lighting is realized through the points on the groove track between the ceiling wood beams, so it will not affect the overall aesthetics. Based on high-quality LED, small size, a variety of optical elements and high cri>90 standards, the foam aluminum shelf with glittering highlights the museum lighting, which adds a dramatic effect to the whole scene.
The ideal lighting atmosphere in the exhibition hall is achieved by inserting track spotlights into the display shelves, highlighting cultural relics in a cautious way in the smallest size.
